ASSAf | G20 | OWSD | SAYAS | DWYPD| will jointly host the Youth Indaba on Research Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship on 30 June 2025 at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The theme of the Indaba is Unlocking Africa’s Youth Potential through Science, Innovation and Enterprise.
Background
Africa’s youth represent a powerful force for scientific and socio-economic transformation. However, there remains a significant gap in translating scientific research into viable commercial solutions, especially among emerging scientists. To bridge this gap, the Youth Indaba seeks to empower young researchers and scientists with the tools, networks, and platforms to turn their innovations into market-ready products and services. This Indaba will bring together youth scientists, policy-makers, academia, and private sector stakeholders to catalyze a culture of entrepreneurship and commercialisation within Africa’s science and innovation ecosystem.
Objectives
- To promote a culture of research commercialisation among emerging scientists and youth.
- To connect youth scientists with innovation ecosystems, investors, and incubators.
- To launch a dedicated Channel on Research Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship to provide curated content, mentorship, training, and success stories tailored to youth and early-career researchers.
