The National Recorder System is a DSI led initiative of documenting and recording indigenous knowledge of communities across the nine provinces of South Africa in a secure database. The aim of recording the knowledge is to protect, promote and develop the knowledge of these communities.
The purpose of the launch is to provide R & D access to NRS database. The communities are continuously encouraged to register their indigenous knowledge. Registration will grant communities leverage to participate in benefit-sharing agreements with any person accessing their knowledge. In a greater schemes of things, the system will not grant anyone access to community’s knowledge without their permission.
