STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE
The Bioeconomy Strategy's objective for the South African health sector is to support and strengthen research, development and innovation capabilities to enable the manufacture of locally relevant active pharmaceutical ingredients, vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, African traditional medicines, diagnostics and medical devices.
Health research and innovation priorities are set by the national Department of Health and are aligned with the Millennium Development Goals - including the reduction of child mortality, improvement of maternal health and reducing the burden of HIV, malaria and other diseases.
